In 2008, there were 11,773 fatalities in crashes involving a driver with a BAC of .08 or higher (32 percent of the total traffic fatalities in the United States).
Most traffic fatalities involving older drivers in 2008 occurred during the daytime (80%), occurred on weekdays (72%), and involved other vehicles (69%).
The economic cost of speeding-related crashes is estimated to be $40.4 billion each year.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds.
